The bike is packed and I'm off for Day 1 of this journey.
It's not quite accurate to call this Day 1. It's actually a little cruise up to Ludington for the night. I decided to take the ferry from Ludington across Lake Michigan to Manitowoc, WI. It departs as 0900 and you need to be checked in by 0800, so I'm just going to cruise up and spend the night. That's about it, slow, leisurely start to this journey.
